Company History
Cherokee Instruments was founded in 1995 in order to meet the air sampling equipment needs of industrial facilities and consulting/engineering firms’ nationwide. The company began as an equipment rental solution specializing in stack sampling instruments and accessories. As we grew, additional equipment needs in similar markets were identified which included ambient air and industrial hygiene sampling devices.

Cherokee Instruments, Inc. (Cherokee) and Advanced Monitoring Professionals LLC (AMP) have unified their individual offerings through a strategic alliance. AMP-Cherokee group is a provider of CEM systems and services, source monitoring euqipment rentals and sales, and warranty/repair support for popular analyzers. The equipment employed in our fleet requires that we use highly skilled and trained technicians in order to maintain the inventory in excellent working condition. These skilled personnel have been made available to our clientele for in-house repairs and calibration services for many years. In addition, AMP-Cherokee technicians and engineers are also available to all of our clients for on-site repairs at your facility and/or to provide comprehensive preventative maintenance plans for clients that cannot afford to suspend operations due to failed air sampling equipment.
AMP-Cherokee group offers our clientele temporary solutions in the form of rental equipment and systems, as well as permanent solutions in the form of continuous emissions monitoring and ambient air quality monitoring systems. Plus, all of our equipment is backed by a support staff that is fully capable of solving problems both at our facility or yours. We are committed to earning your business.
We offer a complete range of CEM, Manual, and Ambient Sampling rental equipment. All of our equipment is less than two years old, and with our policy of rotating equipment by selling the used and replacing with new, we provide the latest technology and newest equipment possible.
Our veteran technical staff is pleased to assist you throughout all phases of your testing program, including initial instrumentation selection, telephone technical support, on-site equipment preparation and sampling assistance. We also put our outgoing equipment through a rigorous quality control check prior to shipment. Consequently, you will receive the best equipment available, and the best support at our very competitive rates.
In addition to providing our clients with an exceptional rental experience, we also offer sales and services for analyzers, equipment and accessories. AMP-Cherokee is able to provide most of the brand name items that comprise our rental fleet as sales items. Our clients benefit from the ability to evaluate instrumentation in the field via our rental division, prior to committing to the purchase of new instruments. We routinely sell used equipment from our rental fleet and provide repair services for customer-owned instruments. We also have a “Rent-to-Own” program which allows you the flexibility of applying most of your rental cost against the purchase of a unit. Reggie Stroupe
President/CEO email
Mr. Stroupe joined Cherokee Instruments in 1997 with the goal of growing and diversifying the commercial activities of the company. He provides objectives and direction in order to meet the current and future goals of the company. Reggie has been associated with environmental pollution monitoring instrumentation since 1979 as a principal and CEO. The scope of his instrumentation background spans stack sampling instruments, ambient air sampling equipment and laboratory instrumentation pertaining to air and water samples.
Tim Zapf
General Manager email
Mr. Zapf joined Cherokee Instruments in 1997 as a sales and technical support representative. Prior to joining Cherokee, he worked as a project manager for two air consulting and engineering firms with primary focus on stack sampling and ambient air monitoring. Tim has been involved with air sampling since 1989 and is well versed in the EPA's reference methods and sampling techniques. Currently, Tim oversees all operational aspects of the company including sales, marketing, technical support and general management. He provides direction for continuous improvement of the company’s services and support. Tim remains as an active interface between clients and the company, and is still known to get his hands dirty when the need arises.
John Kelley
Vice President, Operations email
Mr. Kelley is a veteran of CEM system design and manufacturing. His 20+ years of application engineering experience with URS (Oak Ridge, TN) and ESC (Knoxville, TN) was utilized to develop customers at major electric utilites and industrial sources. His company, EMT, was eventually acquired by Cherokee Instruments and, together, became known as AMP-Cherokee. Electric power utilities and industrial sources can now form meaningful strategies for equipment procurement and service schedules from a single resource without the inefficiencies of competing vendors.

Elke Arnold

Ms. Arnold
joined Cherokee Instruments in 2000 as a receptionist. Prior to joining the company, Elke spent several years in the banking industry both domestically and in her home country of Germany. Her ability to manage finances effectively did no go unnoticed for long. In her current role, Elke handles receptionist duties and day-to-day bookkeeping, which includes client credit management, purchasing and accounts payable/receivable.
Lyndon "Sarge" Sargent
Logistics Manager email
Mr. Sargent joined Cherokee Instruments in its founding year of 1995, and is the company's longest tenured employee. Prior to joining Cherokee, he worked for many years in the entertainment industry where he provided logistical services worldwide to musical bands, such as AC/DC and INXS. He is well versed in the logistical requirements needed to successfully meet our delivery requirements for all domestic and international shipments. Currently, Sarge is responsible for logistical and resource management including inventory control and shipping/receiving coordination. His long tenure with Cherokee also allows him to fill in as an accomplished rental agent whenever the need arises.
John McKenzie

Mr. McKenzie joined AMP-Cherokee in 2007 as a sales and rentals support engineer. Prior to joining AMP-Cherokee, John performed stack testing and related tasks for emissions monitoring accounts. He is well versed in much of EPA's reference methods and air sampling techniques. His history of hands-on technical ability makes him a valuable resource to our rental clientele who need the right equipment for each project.
Don Dinkins

Mr. Dinkins joined AMP-Cherokee in 2007 as a sales and rentals support engineer. Prior to joining AMP-Cherokee, he performed engineering services at Environmental Systems Corporation and Shaw Environmental. His contract and management background adds a valuable resource for AMP customers seeking a high level of response to their requests.

Mr. Keller joined the AMP-Cherokee group in 2009 with a career in mechanical and electrical machinery operation and maintenance. As Field Services Manager, Chris brings a wide range of experience and aptitude to our installation and maintenance operations for increasing reliability and performance of CEM and related monitoring equipment.
Brian Patterson

Mr. Patterson has spent 15 years providing marketing support to various engineering firms - recently, from 1997 to 2005 at Environmental Systems Corporation and Tekran Instruments (Knoxville, TN) contributing to their engineering, CEMS, service, sales and marketing. In 2006, he joined AMP-Cherokee to develop their marketing initiatives with corporate identity, literature, and their web presence. Currently, he is responsible for marketing, sales and corporate communications.

Mr. Kreeger joined Cherokee Instruments specifically to manage the manual method stack test equipment fleet. Jim's mechanical aptitude and organizational skills have consistently kept our equipment ready for rental customers in a hurry to gear up.
Michael House
Lead Instrument Technician email
Mr. House joined Cherokee Instruments in 1998 as an instrument technician. Prior to joining the company, Michael worked for several major electronics and communications providers as an electronics technician. His natural aptitude and genuine enjoyment for providing exceptional telephone technical support landed him in telephone support roles throughout his career. Michael currently enjoys the position of Lead Instrument Technician with primary responsibilities of providing telephone support and instrument repair. He also serves as a role model and educator to more junior level technicians. Michael has been factory trained by suppliers such as ABB, Teledyne/API and California Analytical and enjoys making his expertise available to clientele.
